A contemporary art museum in an appropriately edgy Raval square
The plaza in front of the MACBA is one of my favorite spots in the city. Skaters gather to hang out and show off, and Raval restaurants and boutiques are scattered around the area and nearby streets. The stark white, angular museum contains well-curated contemporary works, including pieces from Robert Rauschenberg and Vito Acconci. You do pay to enter the museum, but across the plaza is a small, old church the MACBA staff fills with some of the museum’s collection for anyone to peruse for free.
