A traditional Catalan restaurant that’s almost as old as America
For a nice, traditional Catalan meal, a concierge at one of the many opulent hotels in the city often recommends Cans Culleretes. Even though it isn’t the most extravagant restaurant in Barcelona or even that expensive, they are right in pointing their clientele to Cans.
The restaurant has been in business from more than 200 years, so they obviously have been doing something right. This isn’t a meal of tapas, but rather traditional Catalan dishes like butifarra (a type of sausage) with beans, or escudella, a Catalan stew. The décor is beautiful; the room spacious, cozy and decorated with chandaliers and paintings. It’s a great place to go with family, or a couple of friends, but it’s definitely has an older clientele than other restaurants in Barcelona. It’s also off Las Ramblas, which makes it a convenient choice for tourists.
