Pippermint might attract the study abroad college kids with its larger-than-life drinks (intended to be shared among many, of course), but it’s location near a hub of favorite clubs outside downtown in the city make it a logical place to start a night. With drinking straws as long as your arms, just remember to take it slow, because drunk Americans definitely stand out in a crowd of Spaniards at any bar or club. (In fact, I never saw an obscenely drunk Spaniard out in any of my nights in Barcelona. Americans were a different story.)
