Heavy metal replaces elevator music at this burger joint

Heavy metal blasts throughout, the burgers are named after heavy metal bands, all the employees have tattoos and no waiter will dote on you. But none of these are the reason to check out Kuma’s. Believe it or not, this is the best burger in Chicago.

Success begins with the pretzel roll. Where a traditional bun would fall apart, serving up a burger on a pretzel roll means more juice, sauce and ooze. Variety is the second sign of a well-made burger. Not only can Kuma’s dish up a classic medium-rare patty with a fried egg, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and all the other traditional toppings for a greasy restaurant burger, but these chefs can also make variations like “Melvins,” with basil, prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato and onion, without skimping on the grease and without overcooking your beef. (By the way, no one’s going to ask how you like it. It will be medium or medium-rare.)

For all you partiers looking to cap off the night, Kuma’s has a to-die-for beer list, including brews from the Midwest to Germany. Plus, it’s open until 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 3 a.m. on Saturdays.
