Tasty Armenian food and an intimate restaurant off bustling Michigan Avenue
Few fine dining options (or even just not touristy or chain options) are located near the shopping mecca of Michigan Avenue, so take note of Sayat Nova.
Sayat Nova is upscale and intimate (totally date-worthy), which also means it’s a little pricey, but between the atmosphere and food, it is worth shelling out some extra bucks for dinner. The meal starts with a basket of plenty of warm pita bread, and entrees also come with either a soup or salad. When I went, my friend and I both selected combination platters, each for about $16. Between the two of us we tasted about eight Armenian dishes, including a traditional meatball with yogurt sauce (kufta), phyllo dough pastries filled with spinach and cheese (boereg), stuffed grape leaf rolls (sarma) and taboule (which, by the way, is the best taboule I have tasted).
Sayat Nova is a great option for fine dining (and a romantic atmosphere, if that’s what you’re looking for) in a convenient location.
